Public scoping meeting for UW-L's proposed science lab building to be held Wednesday, Feb. 4

A public scoping meeting to present the proposed UW-La Crosse Science Hall Building project will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4,  in the Ward Room, Cartwright Center. Parking will be available in campus lots C-1, C-2 and C-9. Known project components and identification of potential impacts that will be studied in the Environmental Impact Study will be presented at this early phase of project development. All persons in attendance will be afforded a reasonable opportunity to identify both orally and in writing any support, issues or concerns they believe should be addressed during the EIS process for this proposed project. The EIS for the Science Lab Building project will be prepared in accordance with the Wisconsin Environmental Policy Act (WEPA), Wisconsin Statutes 1.11 and University of Wisconsin System (UW System) guidelines. The project manager is the state Department of Administration’s Division of Facilities Development (DFD). Cornerstone Environmental Group has been retained to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on behalf of the UW System for this proposal. An initial requirement of the EIS is the scoping process, with the intent of presenting the proposal and identifying at an early stage any potential impacts of the project on the physical, biological, social, cultural and economic environments. Impacts that are identified during this process are incorporated into a Draft EIS which is made available to the public for a 45-day review period and is circulated to appropriate federal, state and local agencies. A public meeting is held on the Draft EIS. Comments and inquiries raised on the Draft EIS are used to develop the final EIS, which is circulated to the public and commenting agencies for a subsequent 30-day review period, during which a public hearing is held for additional clarification and comment. Following the public hearing, a conclusion on the findings of the EIS is developed for release by the UW System. This Record of Decision is circulated to key individuals and agencies involved in the EIS process. Those interested in or who have relevant information relevant to the project, are encouraged to provide comments, suggestions or other input in writing by Friday, April 3, for incorporation into the Draft EIS to: Susan Mockert, Cornerstone Environmental Group, 8413 Excelsior Drive, Suite 160, Madison, WI 53717 or email susan.mockert@cornerstoneeg.com. Comments received after Friday, May 1, will be considered in preparation of the final EIS. Obtain related information and comment forms at http://www.cornerstoneeg.com/uw-lacrosse_science-lab. Schedule spring library instruction sessions now

Every year, thousands of UW-L students benefit from hands-on instruction related to information research and library resources. Faculty and staff work with librarians to construct sessions that meet the needs of their classes. Instructors can bring their classes to the library, or a librarian can visit the classroom. The program gets very busy, especially in the opening weeks of the semester, so faculty and staff are encouraged to make arrangements as early as possible. To schedule a library instruction session, use the form at the library website under the Services menu in the left-side navigation area or go to www.uwlax.edu/MurphyLibrary/Services/Forms/Library-instruction-request/. Or email requests to libinstruct@uwlax.edu. Direct questions or special requests to Instructional Technology Librarian Liz Humrickhouse-Lee at ehumrickhouse-lee@uwlax.edu.

Submit course reserves requests now

Faculty and staff are encouraged to make course reserves requests at Murphy Library as soon as possible. Allow one week for course reserves processing. The course reserves request form is on the library home page in the left-side navigation menu under Services > Borrowing or go to www.uwlax.edu/MurphyLibrary/Services/Borrowing/Course-reserves/.
