National survey lends insight into UW-L academics and engagement

When UW-La Crosse seniors were asked if they would choose the same school again if they could start their college career over, nearly 90 percent said yes. UW-L’s sustainability-themed year continues with films and presentations UW-La Crosse’s sustainability-themed year continues this semester with the sharing of stories from local and worldwide environmental advocates.

Gays Mills historical exhibit to be unveiled

When the relocation of the village of Gays Mills is completed this year, residents and others shouldn’t have any trouble recalling what the old town looked like. UW-La Crosse students have completed a pictorial display.

UW-L 100 in Paris

They encountered the most wonderful chocolate-covered crepes and the ever-present smell of cigarette smoke on city streets. UW-L freshmen saw Paris from the Eiffel Tower above to the Catacombs below.

Admissions holds first UW-L Scholar Day

UW-L Admissions held its first ever UW-L Scholar Day on Friday. Academically-talented, admitted freshmen for the 2012-13 school year toured campus, visited college classes, ate lunch with deans and faculty, attended academic information sessions and heard from UW-L Chancellor Joe Gow and other campus leaders. Women in Black peace vigils resume on campus

All campus women — faculty, staff and students — are invited to join the Women in Black silent peace vigils Thursday from 12:30-1 p.m. beginning Feb. 2.at the north entrance to Cartwright Center (near the traffic circle). Participants are welcome to stand for all or part of any vigil. Women in Black is an international network of women who call for an end to war and for the creation of a peaceful and just world. DigiCopy training session to be held Feb. 3

Learn how to use DigiCopy, UW-L's new provider of copying and printing services, at a training session Friday, Feb. 3. DigiCopy representatives will be on campus for a day-long series of instructional sessions including what products and services are available, how to set up an account and how to place orders over the Web. Introductory and advanced presentations will be held throughout the day in 15 Wing Technology Center. Time will be available for faculty, staff or students to drop in for one-on-one assistance. Spotlight on Pink Floyd at Feb. 3 Album Encounters

UW-L’s Album Encounters multimedia light and laser show at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb 3, features Pink Floyd’s “Animals.” Admission is $2 for students and $3 for others. UW-L’s Planetarium public programs begin with “Journey to the Stars.”  The program begins at 1 p.m. Saturdays Feb. 4, 11, 18 and 25, in 20 Cowley Hall. Admissions is $2 for students, $3 for others. Comedian Jackie Fabulous coming to campus

A night of Fabulous comedy is planned at UW-La Crosse. Comedian Jackie Fabulous will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in the Cellar, Cartwright Center. Admission is free, but space is limited. Fabulous is a comedian who shares the loves, tragedies, lessons and awkward but necessary moments of her life. She believes most life lessons, no matter how tragic, can at some point make us laugh and that laughter can comfort others. Remembering artwork. Former UW-L employee and 1988 alumna Gloria Faivre died Jan. 21. Faivre taught at UW-L and was assistant director of UW-L's Self-Sufficiency Program, formerly the Single Parent Self-Sufficiency Program. See the La Crosse Tribune obituary here. On behalf of UW-L's Habitat for Humanity Chapter, thanks to the university community for making the First Salvation Army Bell Ringing Day a success. On Dec. 10, students, staff and faculty raised nearly $8,000 for this great cause. Special thanks to all the student organizations who participated and to “Nick” Nicklaus and his staff for organizing the participation of 10 residence halls.
