Help build UW-L Diversity & Inclusion Timeline
UW-L has made significant progress on inclusion and diversity. In an attempt to capture some of this history, UW-L is building a timeline to highlight specific events that indicate forward movement around issues of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, socio-economics and more. To see the beginning stages of the timeline now, go to www.uwlax.edu/diversity-inclusion/timeline.htm. This preservation of history will serve as a reminder of when the diversity and inclusion movement started, a benchmark for where UW-L currently is, and a measure of the efforts that need to continue. The Diversity & Inclusion Timeline Project will provide guidance and meaning for new and current UW-L family members, while also resembling a tribute to all the trailblazers who came before, Communications & Program Coordinator Amanda Goodenough says. "After all, the progress around diversity and inclusion is sometimes slow, but it must always live on and be celebrated." Submit information on events to be considered for the timeline to UW-L Diversity & Inclusion Timeline. Or email agoodenough@uwlax.edu.6th Annual Freedom Fest is June 15
The sixth annual Freedom Fest, an event celebrating U.S. teterans and active duty service members, is set for Saturday, June 15, at UW-L's Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. This year’s musical performances include Chicago, Daughtry, The Remainders and the 451st Army Band’s MPT Charlie. Freedom Fest also features a commemorative motorcycle ride and special tribute to Wisconsin’s Fallen Heroes — the men and women from Wisconsin who have passed away serving the U.S. since September 11, 2011. Freedom Fest has raised $400,000 for Veterans causes, including nearly $80,000 in scholarships for returning service members pursuing an education at a University of Wisconsin System institution. Freedom Fest proceeds also help maintain a memorial inside the corridors of UW-L's Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex, the Hall of Honor. Thousands of visitors each year show their respect and pay tribute to veterans here. Freedom Fest tickets are $45 at area Festival Foods or online at FreedomFestLaCrosse.com.
