Ryan Dietz from Adobe Systems, Inc. presents during the May 22 Adobe Day at UW-L.[/caption]
Technology highlighted during Adobe Day and HOT: Hands On Technology
More than 50 UW-L faculty and staff attended sessions and workshops hosted by Academic Technology Services and Information Technology Services May 22 and 23.
On May 22, Adobe Day featured presentations from two representatives from Adobe Systems Inc., Jill Gray and Ryan Dietz. They also answered questions about Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Creative Suite/Creative Cloud and Adobe Digital Publishing Suite. In June, Adobe will be moving to a cloud-based, software subscription model called Creative Cloud for its Creative Suite software. This will be a radical change from the past when Creative Suite software was delivered on CD or DVD with individual licenses.
This is the second year that Academic Technology Services offered HOT: Hands On Technology. HOT included interactive workshops using Adobe Acrobat Pro, Turnitin, digital storytelling, tools to create screen captures, screen recordings and podcasts and Google Drive. The objective of HOT is to give an overview of several learning technologies and then allow attendees to work with them "hands on" in a computer classroom environment.
Contact ats@uwlax.edu with questions about Adobe Day or HOT.

UW-L in the news
A summary of some of the stories about UW-La Crosse spotted in the news.
"UW-L hosts NCAA Div. III track and field championships," WKBT-TV, May 23.
Thousands of fans and athletes are at UW-La Crosse this weekend for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships. The university bid for the opportunity to host the meet about three years ago and after months and months of work, it's finally a reality...
"Shilling, Joint Finance Committee vote to reduce UW funding, increase oversight," La Crosse Tribune, May 24.
La Crosse's Democratic state senator threw her support behind a tuition freeze and cuts for University of Wisconsin campuses Thursday. Sen. Jennifer Shilling voted with the majority on the state's Joint Finance Committee to freeze UW System tuition at 2012-13 rates for two years, cut an additional $2.5 million and increase government oversight...
"Regents: UW could have been more open about its finances, surplus," La Crosse Tribune, May 26.
The president of the UW Board of Regents said Friday that the state's system of public universities could have been more transparent about its budget, particularly the $650 million in reserves that have drawn the ire of lawmakers. "Nobody can say that this was hidden," said President Brent Smith, a lawyer from La Crosse. "But could we have done a better job of pointing that out? Sure." Still, Smith said, the UW System didn't deserve the smack-down it received Thursday from the Legislature's Joint Finance Committee...
"Our view: Keep student loan rates affordable," Editorial, La Crosse Tribune, May 28.
...Now just as we're on the slow path of recovery, with housing sales hammered by the financial crisis finally rebounding, Congress may fail to prevent another crisis that we can predict. Without action by July 1, the interest rates on federal student loans will double, putting an extreme burden on more than 37 million borrowers. Apparently it's too much to expect Congress to prevent freight trains from coming down the tunnel, even when we see the light from miles away...
