Composer coming to UWL to work with college, high school students

One of America’s most performed living composers is coming to UW-La Crosse.

One of America’s most performed living composers is coming to UW-La Crosse.

Two concerts and a rehearsal will be open to the public.[/caption] Libby Larsen, who has created a catalogue of more than 400 works spanning genres ranging from intimate, vocal and chamber music to large, orchestral pieces and operas, will work with students from UWL and the La Crosse School District. During Larsen’s stay at UWL as composer-in-residence, performances free and open to the public include:
  • 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, choir concert featuring the UWL Women’s Choir, Central High School Robed Choir and the Logan High School Select Choir, Annett Recital Hall, Center for the Arts.
  • 9:30–11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, open rehearsal with the UWL Wind Ensemble, Room 56, Center for the Arts.
  • 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, concert featuring the Logan High School Wind Ensemble, UWL Wind Ensemble with UWL Assistant Professor of Music Jonathan Borja on flute, Viterbo University Fine Arts Center.
Larsen, a Grammy Award winning, widely recorded artist, is highly sought after for commissions and premieres. She co-founded the Minnesota Composers Forum, now the American Composer’s Forum. A former holder of the Papamarkou Chair at John W. Kluge Center of the Library of Congress, Larsen has also held residencies with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Charlotte Symphony and the Colorado Symphony.
