UWL business dean to discuss local economy, future of rural communities

UW-La Crosse College of Business Administration Dean TJ Brooks will offer an update on the local economy Thursday, March 13, during the State Bank Financial Economic Indicators event at UWL.

The event, which includes a breakfast at 7 a.m. and a program running from 7:20 to 9 a.m., will be held in The Bluffs ballroom in the Student Union.

Brooks will share key insights into current economic trends and the future of rural Wisconsin communities.

As these communities navigate significant economic and demographic shifts, the challenge of providing essential services has become increasingly pressing. Declining populations, driven by young residents migrating to urban centers, are exacerbating labor shortages, making it difficult to attract and retain skilled workers.

Additionally, an aging population is shifting consumption preferences, posing new hurdles for local businesses striving to remain viable.

In addition to Brooks’ insights, attendees will benefit from a panel discussion featuring prominent local business leaders who will share their experiences navigating these challenges.

The cost to attend the event is $30. Registration is encouraged by Monday, March 10, as seating is limited. Guests can purchase tickets online, or ask for additional information by calling 608.785.8090.

Economic Indicators: An Update for the 7 Rivers Region is a regional business forum. State Bank Financial sponsors the event as part of its Thought Leadership Series, in collaboration with the UWL College of Business Administration and the La Crosse Tribune.
