UW-La Crosse Band Director Tammy Fisher will conduct the La Crosse Concert Band at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Riverside Park.
UW-La Crosse Band Director Tammy Fisher will conduct the La Crosse Concert Band at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Riverside Park.
It will be seventh concert of an eight-concert season. In the past, the concert has drawn crowds in excess of 3,000 people, says Fisher.
“This is usually a pretty popular concert — provided it doesn’t rain and isn’t 110 degrees,” she says.
The theme for Fisher’s concert follows a John Philip Sousa format, featuring numerous soloists and novelty pieces followed by Sousa marches as encore pieces. The concert will feature flute soloist Mona Gardner, a UW-L alum and local music teacher. Another highlight is a trumpet trio playing Buglers Holiday.
The concert, offering a beautiful vista of the river and great musical entertainment, includes a children’s march where children receive small American flags to wave.
“It’s a great summer, social event for families and folks of all ages,” she says.
The last concert of the season will be 7:30 p.m. Aug. 3, at Viterbo University. Fisher has been a member of the band for nine years and has conducted the last five.
