Five years of books; one big celebration

UW-L celebrates campus authors Jan. 23

Through the written word, UW-L Professors have busted health myths, analyzed pop culture, explained climatology, lent business leadership advice and much more. Help celebrate their work at the UW-L Celebration of Campus Authors from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, in UW-L Murphy Library Special Collections. This reception will include music, refreshments, a cash bar, and a short program at 4:20 p.m. After the reception, the books will be on display for a few weeks in the library display case across from the circulation desk. Examples of UW-L authors include, Assistant Professor of Political Science Tim Dale who, with a team of scholars, used television shows, movies and music to investigate contemporary issues in American popular culture in the book “Homer Simpson Marches on Washington: Dissent through American Popular Culture.” Professor Emeritus Charles Swayne presents career advice using the language of poker in the book, “The Shark and the Fish: Applying Poker Strategies to Business Leadership.” Professor Brian Udermann separates truth from hearsay for 101 of the most common exercise, health, nutrition, and general knowledge myths in the book “25 Ways To Cure The Hiccups: Uncovering The Truth Behind 101 Common Myths and Misconceptions.” Check out descriptions of books by other campus authors online. These include monographic works in which a UW-L faculty or staff member was the author, co-author, compiler, editor/co-editor, translator or illustrator. The event is co-sponsored by Murphy Library and the Provost's Office. Macias-Gonzalez, Heidi Slettedahl Macpherson, Maggie Lee McHugh, Bruce Mouser, Kasi Periyasamy, Steven Simpson, Jeff Steffen, William Stobb, Charley Swaynem Brian Udermann, Rob Wilkie.
