UWL staff, students host food drive as students depart for break

As UW-La Crosse students leave campus for winter break and others graduate, UWL staff and students are coordinating an End of the Semester Food Drive to collect non-perishable food items. Boxes in residence halls will be labeled for students to drop off food they may not want to keep in their room over break.

“It is a great way for students to give on campus if they have food that they do not want anymore,” says Kelsi Grubisich, UWL civic engage and leadership coordinator.

All food collected will go to the Campus Food Pantry, which has seen an increase in users, she adds.

Various food drives throughout the school year help supplement food in the pantry. A food drive in campus residence halls is organized at the end of each semester in addition to monthly food drives in 11 departments across campus — a friendly competition to gather items frequently needed in the pantry.   This fall UWL staff added two new food drives, a Halloween Food Drive in Wimberly Hall and the “Fill the Truck Event,” collecting food at the Hoeschler Tower.

Not living in a residence hall, but want to contribute?

Individuals who have items to donate can drop them off at the main desk in the COVE in 2200 Student Union.
