Golf outing features onsite, virtual options
The UWL Alumni Association’s annual summer golf outing is going global — again.
The Association offered its first “Global Golf” option in 2012 but had only a few takers.
“I jokingly like to say that we were ahead of our time and that people just weren't ready for that kind of cutting-edge idea,” says Keli Frigo, assistant director of the Alumni Association. “We discontinued the Global Golf option in the following years.”
But a pandemic changes everything. And with much social life happening virtually, the Global Golf option is back. You can join from anywhere and still be part of the event’s community and camaraderie.
“We want alumni to be able to participate in this event no matter where they live,” explains Frigo. “This way, they can still support the Alumni Association, show their UWL pride and get outside to enjoy a sport they love.”
Frigo hopes to see more than 140 golfers on the local links, and are aiming for players in all 50 states, along with others internationally.
“That said, every connection made through an event like this is important to us and to the university,” says Frigo.
Golfers typically include recent alums to those from 50 years ago. Others are non-alums who are great friends of the university and come back annually to support the Alumni Association and enjoy a beautiful day on the links.
New this year is an online auction, open to golfers and others. More information will be released when details are finalized.

Where: The Golf Club at Cedar Creek

Cost: $125 per person ($150 after July 23)

Cost: $50 per person
Drawing: All Global Golfers will be entered into a drawing for a $250 Visa gift card.
