Dakota Nyberg's UWL experience helped him to put his entrepreneurial spirit into action, aiding him in creating his own video production company DMM Productions.

Alumnus Dakota Nyberg launches video production company after graduation

Dakota Nyberg has turned his passion for filmmaking into a successful business and rewarding career.

As the founder of DMM Productions, Nybergs’s journey from a marketing major with an international business minor to a full-time entrepreneur reflects the transformational impact of his UWL experience.

Nyberg’s love for content creation began in 2020 when the pandemic left him with ample time to explore new hobbies. A chance outing with a friend ignited his interest in photography, which soon evolved into videography.

Nyberg gradated from UWL in 2023 with a degree in marketing and a minor in international business.

“UWL’s campus sparked so much creativity for me,” Nyberg, ’23, says. “I created videos for fun, many of which were shared campus-wide, connecting me with opportunities and even bringing me my first client work.”

His early projects — travel films, campus videos and client collaborations — taught Nyberg valuable lessons.

“Those videos showed me how driven I was becoming,” Nyberg says. “I spent countless hours learning and improving. They also taught me the importance of saying ‘yes’ and learning along the way.”

Today, Nyberg’s work involves partnering with brands to create compelling, interview-style content that elevates their brand awareness, highlights their unique personalities and memorably tells their stories.

Nyberg says he has always had an entrepreneurial mindset, but his UWL experience helped him find the mentors he needed to open his mind to new opportunities and ideas.

“I’m glad I went to school at UWL because I made connections with students, professors and businesses that I never otherwise would have,” Nyberg shares.

Professors like Dan Wallace, Savisesh Malampallayil, Ken Graham and Rachel Funk-Johnson positively impacted Nyberg’s journey.

“They all gave such wonderful ideas and thoughts, brought my name up in rooms full of opportunity and all understood my mindset,” Nyberg says.

After graduating in December 2023, Nyberg fully committed to DMM Productions, navigating the complexities of starting a business with determination. From filing an LLC to building client relationships, he embraced the challenges of entrepreneurship.

Nyberg’s current work involves partnering with brands to create compelling, interview-style content that elevates their brand awareness.

“The hardest part is starting, but if you’re driven and ambitious, don’t let being young stop you,” Nyberg says.

Looking ahead, Nyberg is excited about the future of DMM Productions. With a strong foundation and ambitious plans for 2025, he is ready to take on new creative projects and even hopes to mentor an intern from UWL.

Reflecting on his journey, Nyberg credits UWL as a place that nurtured his passion and gave him the tools to succeed.

“I’m so much happier building my own dream,” Nyberg says. “UWL gave me the community and support to make it possible.”
