Registration for summer study abroad in China is open to all majors, deadline to apply is March 15
Students interested in seeing how people live and how education happens in another part of the world are encouraged to apply for a summer 2019 study abroad experience in Luoyang, China.
Students will earn six credits in education and psychology courses while experiencing famous Chinese attractions, including: The Great Wall of China, The Forbidden City, the Terra Cotta Army and more. The trip, May 20-June 14, includes lodging, meals and credit hours. The total cost, including 6 credits of tuition, is approximately $5,500. (This trip is eligible for financial aid).
“What I want most for participants is a new perspective,” says Heather Linville, a faculty advisor for the trip who has traveled throughout Asia. “I want them to understand that what we consider normal is arbitrary — it is created based on our culture. And what other people do is normal from their perspective — it is not right or wrong.”
The City of La Crosse is a sister city to Luoyang and UWL’s School of Education has grown a strong partnership with the city. In addition to offering this study abroad program, students from Luoyang and other parts of the world participate in the U.S. Culture and English Academy at UWL during summer months.
Students will take courses in the areas of PSY 212, Lifespan Development; EDS 309 Education in a Global Society; and EDS 475 Cultural Lab.
A total of 15 students can participate. To learn more and register visit www.uwlax.edu/SOE or contact Heather Linville, associate professor of Education Studies, at 608.785.8326 or hlinville@uwlax.edu or Jordan Brick, education abroad advisor, at 608.785.8948 or jbrick@uwlax.edu.
