Register now for Annual Turkey Trot Nov. 17
UW-La Crosse Rec Sports is again incorporating health and wellness into a fun holiday tradition. People from near and far will flock to UW-L for the 18th Annual UW-L Turkey Trot presented by Shenanigans and Subway. The 5K run/walk starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Veterans Memorial Monument at UW-L.
The Turkey Trot and Jr. Gobbler Youth Races are popular Thanksgiving traditions that started in 1995. The race has become one of the largest in the area. Last year 2,200 runners, walkers and junior gobblers participated in the race.
This year folks are encouraged to participate even if they don’t make a special trip back to campus by signing up for the Turkey Trot Coast to Coast race for $25 dollars. UW-L Rec Sports will send a T-shirt and race bib. On the race day, these participants are encouraged to run or walk a 5K or simply do something active. Those submitting pictures may find themselves on a global racers Facebook page created for the event.
“Our goal is to get the pictures online so people can reconnect with each other,” says Erin Thacker, event coordinator.
Registration for either race is online. Through Friday, Nov. 9, early bird online only registration for the race on campus is $7. All 5K participants who register for the Turkey Trot online will be entered into a prize drawing for a chance to win a new Wyatt bike, designed by UW-L alum Wyatt Hrudka.
Proceeds from registration will fund UW-L Rec Sports student and staff development opportunities.
View additional race details including registration dates, prices, T-shirt costs, race route and team trotter information by visiting the UW-L Turkey Trot website at www.uwlax.edu/turkeytrot/
