Help celebrate the 100th anniversary of Woody Guthrie's birth in 1912 and enjoy food, crafts and music at the 37th Annual Great River Folk Festival Friday through Sunday, Aug. 24-26, on UW-L's campus.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Friday in Cartwright Center with a Guthrie tribute concert. Minnesota legends Pop Wagner, Tony Glover and Charlie Maguire begin the headliner concert at 7:30. The Great River Folk Festival is an interactive community event for all ages that preserves and promotes traditional and contemporary folk culture through music, crafts, dance and food. Saturday and Sunday are filled with music, ethnic and old-time dance, crafts from regional artisans, children's activities and ethnic foods. Two evening concerts feature Vance Gilbert, Ann Reed, Harvey Reid, Pieta Brown, Tropicante, Trina Hamlin, The Chris Silver Band and Fayme Rochelle and the Waxwings.
Free parking is available in the parking lot next to the Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex, East Avenue and Pine Street, and at the Fine Arts Center parking lot, 16th and Pine streets.
