UW-L's Hoeschler Tower received a much needed "face-lift" this summer.

It's been 11 years since Janet Hoeschler, '40, donated funds for the Hoeschler Tower to be built at the center of campus southwest of Cowley Hall.
Parts were worn out and needed replacement, so this summer Hoeschler Tower's clock dials, hands, movement hardware and dial illumination were upgraded and the master clock controller was replaced.
The tower includes a clock and lantern, symbolizing the Homecoming "Hanging of the Lantern" tradition that dates back to the 1930s. It was named Hoeschler Tower and quickly became a popular campus icon.
The campus centerpiece today is not only the focal point for Homecoming's two most popular traditions— "Hanging of the Lantern" and "Lighting of the 'L'" — but a popular gathering area for concerts, rallies and more. Hoeschler died in 2004 at the age of 86.
