American Red Cross, UWL partner to host 150th blood drive
On Feb. 14 and 15, the American Red Cross will partner with UWL to host their 150th blood drive on campus.
“Each academic year, we co-host three blood drives with the American Red Cross club and two or three additional student organizations,” says Amanda Krafft, program coordinator for Civic Engagement & Leadership.
The first UWL blood drive was hosted in 1990. Since then, the partnership has allowed the American Red Cross to collect 18,920 units of blood from 19,411 donors.
The timing of the drive aligns perfectly with Valentine’s Day and National Acts of Kindness Week, offering a meaningful opportunity to positively impact someone's life through the act of donating blood.
“One unit of blood can help up to three lives,” Krafft says. “So, over the past 34 years, UWL has potentially helped 56,760 lives.”
The next blood drive will take place in The Bluffs (2110 Student Union) from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 14 and 15. Donors receive a $20 Amazon gift card for their generosity.
