UWL named top public university in new ranking
UW-La Crosse is the only comprehensive campus in Wisconsin to make a new list of the nation’s best public colleges.
UWL placed No. 100 in a new ranking by news website Stacker — the only Wisconsin university besides UW-Madison to make the list. Stacker evaluated colleges on a variety of factors, including academics, admissions, cost and student life.
“Students and families consider a number of factors when selecting a college, and a growing number are choosing UWL,” says Corey Sjoquist, assistant vice chancellor for admissions and recruitment. “This ranking is a reflection of our outstanding people, our top-notch programs and activities, the success of our graduates, and our location in one of the most beautiful communities in the country — all of which make UWL a great place to pursue a degree. People are discovering the energy and opportunity at UWL not found on other campuses.”
In its ranking, Stacker highlighted several of UWL’s strengths, including student-to-faculty ratio (18:1), graduate rate (71%) and employment rate two years after graduation (96%).
Stacker also noted UWL’s commitment to its motto, mens corpusque, which means “mind and body” in Latin. Nearly 90% of UWL students participate in recreational sports while maintaining a 3.2 GPA.
This is the latest example of UWL earning high marks relative to its peers.
UW-La Crosse is ranked the No. 2 public college in Wisconsin on Forbes’ 2023 America's Top Colleges list. The annual list showcases 500 of the finest U.S. colleges that have demonstrated impressive graduation rates, high graduate salaries and great outcomes for low-income students.
In U.S. News & World Report’s ranking of the Best Colleges for 2024, UWL was the top-ranked comprehensive campus in the Universities of Wisconsin system. U.S. News also promoted UWL to its “Top Public Schools Among National Universities” category.
