UWL marching band back on campus

The UW-La Crosse Screaming Eagles Marching Band is returning to campus preparing for the 2017 season. The 135-member group, under the direction of Music Associate Professor Tammy Fisher, starts rehearsals Sunday, Aug. 27, and continues practicing throughout the week. A typical band camp day begins at 8 a.m. and runs through 9 p.m. During camp, the band will prepare 30 pieces of music, as well as precision drills for both the pre-game and halftime shows for UWL’s five home football games, along with other performances. The week culminates with the UWL Eagles first home football game against Luther College at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2. The theme for this year’s field show is British Invasion. Featuring the music of Queen and Led Zeppelin, the band will play “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Fat Bottomed Girls,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “Black Dog,” “Kashmir,” “Stairway to Heaven” and “Whole Lotta Love.” The band has several performances scheduled for the season. Saturday, Sept. 23, will mark the 7th annual High School Band Day during an Eagles football game against Carroll University at 3 p.m. More than 500 high school band students from 10 area high schools will join the Screaming Eagles on the field for pre-game and halftime performances to perform five songs together. On Oct. 14, the band will travel to Minnesota to perform at the US Bank stadium for the Minnesota State Marching Band Championships. The season will conclude on Sunday, Nov. 5, with the annual marching band review concert.
