Students share how donors, alumni have contributed to campus
The Cleary Alumni & Friends Center. More than $1 million in scholarships for students each year. Hoeschler Tower. They’re all examples of how alumni and donors have made UW-La Crosse such a special place. And UWL Philanthropy Week, April 1- 6, will celebrate the generosity that makes the “UWL Experience” possible. “Nearly every area of campus is impacted by donors who love UWL,” says Taylor Wilmoth, Development Specialist with the UWL Foundation. “We want to highlight how giving helps students, faculty and staff, as well as thank our donors who so strongly support and believe in their work.” Wilmoth says hundreds of students benefit from scholarships annually, iconic landmarks are created on campus, and unique programs and opportunities for students take place all due to donors making a significant difference in the everyday life of campus. Philanthropy Week is made possible through the tireless energy of the UWL Student Philanthropy Council, says Wilmoth. “This group of dedicated students work to promote the ways philanthropy impacts campus throughout the year,” she notes. Sunday, April 1 Student Philanthropy Council (SPC) members will be placing small lawn flags outside Wittich Hall. Each flag represents a student who received a scholarship last year. SPC members will also be chalking campus signage to notify campus that we are celebrating Philanthropy this week. Monday, April 2 “Philanthropy at UWL” — tables at Hoeschler Tower from 9 a.m. -1 p.m. and the Student Union from 9-11:30 a.m. Students can enter a selfie contest and complete the philanthropy scavenger hunt in The U.
