UWL's Recreational Eagle Center has intramural sports connections, workouts and more — all accessible online

Looking for a way to stay active and connected during this time? UWL’s Recreational Eagle Center (REC) has created a variety of options. See an overview of activities below.

“It is important for us to continue to provide opportunities and support for our students,” says Whitney Burress, REC event coordinator and sport club coordinator. “We want to provide and create a space that empowers and connects them. We want everyone to find a way to REC-reate with us during these challenging times.”

  • Trail challenge. The Outdoor Connection has organized a trail challenge. For the month of April, the REC is challenging people to spend 45 minutes outside every day! Get started now.  The top three participants with the most points at the end of the challenge will win their choice of a free Outdoor Connection buff or patch!* Steps to sign up for the challenge:
    1. Click the green join button on the right-hand side
    2. Fill out information or sign in using Facebook
    3. Click "join an existing team"
    4. Search "UWL Outdoor Connection"
    5. Either Invite a friend or skip this step
    6. Click "Dashboard," located at the bottom of the page to be taken to our team's homepage.
  • Esports leagues through the REC’s Intramural Sports Program. The REC will offer Fortnite singles, Fortnite duos, and rocket league at different times during the week. Learn more.

Connect with the REC on Facebook and Instagram. See all social accounts.

  • Live fitness sessions: The REC has a live fitness class schedule! Classes are online with Tammy Zee on Facebook live. They will be posted to IGTV on Instagram an hour after each class.
  • Sharing life experiences in this moment. Every Monday a UWL student will take over the REC’s Instagram and Facebook stories to show how they are living life during this challenging time. The student will focus on different aspects of their life such as online classes, recreation and more. Anyone can join in and ask questions throughout the day.
  • Wellness tips: Every Tuesday and Thursday a Rec Sport Athletic Trainer will post new wellness resources and tips covering a variety of topics.
  • Bored busters: Every Friday look out for "bored busters” focused on one subject and offering up to five different activities to "bust your boredom."
  • ‘How to’ tips: Every Friday find "how to" videos focused on a variety of topics such as scheduling your online life.
  • Daily workouts: The REC’s Fitness Center is posting daily workouts that require little to no equipment as well as adaptations to meet your ability level.
  • Online events: The REC will also host two- three online events where participants can tune in to connect with others and win prizes with free registration.
  • Fun challenges: The next challenge will encourage students to move across the country virtually as they report their miles of activity whether running, walking, biking, climbing or other activity. The goal is to move from Los Angeles to Boston virtually. These challenges will be launched soon!
  • Stay tuned: Also find polls, contests, and challenges throughout the upcoming weeks. Make sure to follow the REC’s social media to stay up to date on how to get involved!
  • What's Your "Why"? Challenge - We want to know why UWL students participate in intramural sports. Students can send in videos telling the REC why they play intramural sports and win a T-shirt if their submission is in the top three. Check out the REC’s Instagram stories for details.

See the REC’s at-a-glance schedule each Sunday at 10 a.m. on Rec Sports social media accounts. This schedule will allow for students to see everything that is happening during the week. Also, find a daily Rec Report that will show students how they can get involved that day!
