A dance company from South Korea will present and hold master classes in traditional court and folk dance.
A dance company from South Korea will perform and hold master classes on campus. The Music Department’s "Korean Wave — Globalization of Korean Traditional Culture 2016" runs Thursday and Friday, March 31 and April 1.
The events, all free and open to the public, include:
First performance: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31, Annett Recital Hall, Center for the Arts. The performance will be followed by a reception.
Second performance: 10 a.m. Friday, April 1, Brian and Lori Hesprich Auditorium, Graff Main Hall.
Master class: 1:10 p.m. Friday, April 1, 56 Center for the Arts.
Native to South Korea, the Seojung Dance Co. specializes in Korean traditional dance. Artistic director Mi-hee Lee is the title bearer of Seungmu, a Buddhist monk dance that is Korean Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 27. They will be presenting Korean traditional court dance and folk dance. Prior coming to U.S., they will be performing in London, France and Belgium. The performance tour is supported by the Arts Council Korea (ARKO).
The events on campus are supported by UWL Korean Percussion Ensemble, Segregated University Fee Allocation Committee, College of Liberal Studies, Office of International Education & Engagement, and the UWL Foundation.
