Events include ‘Getting Wild About Savings,’ featuring wildlife educator with animals

Money Smart week will be celebrated nationally, April 21-28. A variety of free, financial education events are planned locally for children and adults at community businesses, organizations and higher education institutions. One of the highlights is Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, which will travel to several local spots, including free public shows at Viterbo University and UW-La Crosse. During the event, “Getting Wild About Saving,” Stephanie Arne, a wildlife educator, will display animals and discuss their habitats. The audience will learn how to protect the future for these animals, as well as their own financial future. Events will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Amie L. Mathy Center Boys and Girls Club, on the Viterbo University campus, 811 S. 8th St. La Crosse. Another show will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at The Bluffs, UWL Student Union, 521 East Ave. N.

Money Monologues at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, Entertainment Café, Student Union. This production is a re-enactment of people's real-life experiences related to money. These first-hand experiences will pull heartstrings and produce laughter from those who relate, empathize or learn the impact that financial dispositions create. Life After College: Loan Repayment at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 1300 Centennial Hall. Do you know how much you owe or who your loan servicer is? Discover the various options for your student loan repayment. Students can find out what works best for them. Geocache for College Cash, all day Monday, April 23, throughout campus Travel around the UWL campus to learn and unlock the mysteries behind budgeting and credit. There will be two winners for a cash prizes of $100 and $50! The starting point will be UWL’s It Make$ Cents! Office, 2103 Centennial Hall. Express Credit Check-ups from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, UW Credit Union, Student Union. Having a clear knowledge of your credit report and score has great implications — from getting the best rate on a loan to paying less for insurance. Experts recommend reviewing your credit report at least three times a year, as it is an excellent way to identify mistakes and potential identity theft. Spend 30 minutes in a private, confidential appointment with a UWCU representative to review your credit score and discuss your credit report. Limited slots available. Sign up at online. An Economic Speaker Series continues from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, in room 150, Murphy Library. Speaker Ulice Payne, owner of Addison-Clifton LLC, will share life experiences that the audience can use to be better positioned for their own successful career. Payne’s firm operates by providing global trading services to companies around the world. In addition to his extensive business background, Payne also served as the CEO of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2002. Price is Right-Style Game Night will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in The Bluffs, Student Union Enjoy free pizza, beverages and improve financial knowledge in a fun atmosphere with carnival and game show games alike. Great prizes will be available. FREE Movie Friday will feature “Moneyball” at 3 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Student Union Theater Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) challenges the system and defies conventional wisdom when his is forced to rebuild his small-market team on a limited budget. Money Smart Week is celebrated across the country to help consumers better manage their personal finances. UWL started coordinating a Money Smart Week in 2013. Organizers continue to grow the event, and encourage more public participation. Last year’s events attracted more than 1,000 people.
