Visiting scholar presentation is set for April 19.

A Northern Illinois University associate professor is the visiting scholar for UWL’s Department of Exercise & Sport Science Wednesday, April 19. James Ressler’s visit begins with a meet and greet at 5:45 p.m., followed by a presentation at 6:30 in 150 Murphy Library. Admission is free to both. Ressler’s primary research interests include the training of pre-service and in-service teachers in a physical activity context using different pedagogical approaches. Specifically, he has focused on the training of pre-service and in-service teachers with appropriate content using Models Based Instruction (MBI). Recent scholarly activity has linked the pedagogy from his professional preparation in physical education and sport to working with adult learners in schools and sport settings in local and international contexts. Ressler is currently completing a sabbatical on two studies central to his research. He is leading a review of the development and implementation of the recently adopted Masters of Teaching and Learning program in New Zealand universities, in addition to collaborating on a multi-country research team investigating social and emotional learning in physical education programs. Ressler earned a doctorate in physical education teacher education from The Ohio State University, a master’s in athletic administration from Eastern Illinois University, and a bachelor’s in physical education and sport management from Baldwin-Wallace College.
