Screaming Eagles Marching Band ready for another year.
Horns and drums filled the air leading up to move-in weekend at UWL. They’re pieces of the Screaming Eagles Marching Band, a fixture at several Welcome Week and athletic events.
The students moved in early and put in 13-hour days to have the steps and music down for their season. This year the theme is ‘pop divas.’
“We like to play music the audience can get into and stuff people know,” says senior Jacy Gnacinski, one of this year’s drum majors.
For these students, the marching band is more than just music. “The marching band has always been there for me,” says Gnacinski. “It didn’t matter if I had a question on homework or life, someone was there for me.”
In fact, Gnacinski made quite the connection during her four years in the band:
The band will play at this Saturday’s home football game, alongside around 500 area high school students as part of the 6th annual High School Band Day. Along with halftime, the band will also put on a pre-game show that features a lot of dancing. “We’re not a standstill type of band,” notes Gnacinski.
