National Conference on Undergraduate Research at UW-L April 11-13 includes 3,050 student presentations

Undergraduates from 48 states and seven countries will present their research findings at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) at UW-L April 11-13.

[/caption] Article by UW-L student Melissa Moss Undergraduates from 48 states and seven countries will present their research findings at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) held on the UW-L campus Thursday through Saturday, April 11-13. UW-L also hosted the conference in 2009. NCUR promotes undergraduate research, providing a diverse population of students from around the world the opportunity to supplement knowledge from their classes with the creation of presentations in collaboration with faculty. Students from as far away as Valdosta State University in Georgia, Evergreen State College in Washington and Penn State will showcase 3,050 presentations. Undergraduates' presentations represent 60 disciplines: biology, business, chemistry, communications, diversity, English, health science, history, math, physics, psychology and sociology. Along with the presentations, the event includes three plenary speakers: •   Polar Explorer Will Steger at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 11 •   Cave Microbiologist Hazel A. Barton at 10 a.m. Friday, April 12 •   UW-L alumnus and Grammy Award Winner Singer/Songwriter Bill Miller at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13 Several excursions in the La Crosse area are planned for NCUR participants, including scavenger hunts around the city, night hikes in Myrick Hixon EcoPark and a ride on the La Crosse Queen on the Mississippi River. An International Banquet will be held Friday, April 12. The banquet features musical performances, traditional and contemporary dance routines, and a variety of international foods prepared by UW-L Dining Services.
