Tickets go on sale at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, for UW-L's production of "8," the play. Performances begin Oct. 17.
The UW-La Crosse Department of Theatre will put on a play chronicling the historic trial challenging California’s Proposition 8. "8," the play by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, will show at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 17 and 18, and from Thursday, Oct. 23, through Saturday, Oct. 25. Matinee performances are scheduled for 2 o'clock Sundays Oct. 19 and 26. Black is an American Foundation for Equal Rights founding board member.
"8" is an account of the trial that successfully overturned Proposition 8 and restored the freedom to marry for same sex couples in California. "8" uses the actual court transcripts from federal trial of California’s Proposition 8 and first-hand interviews with the plaintiffs and their families to present both sides of the issue.
Immediately following the performances on Oct. 18, 19, 23 and 24, UW-L's Department of Theatre Arts will host talk-back sessions featuring the cast and director, members of the GLBT community, area clergy and political representatives to spark an open dialogue.
