‘Privatization and the Public Interest’ discussion Jan. 23

Posted 7:26 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012

Jack Norman, director of Policy Research and Development for The Institute for Wisconsin’s Future, will present “Privatization and the Public Interest” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at Port O’ Call, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition. The event is free. Norman will discuss the privatization of government services and the effect on government and the community. Privatization continues unabated, says Guy Wolf, a UW-L staff member who helped organize the event. An example is Gov. Scott Walker’s budget-repair bill, which included allowing the sale or contractual operation of state-owned heating, cooling and power plants, says Wolf. IWF provides reports to develop effective, public policies related to public services. The League of Women Voters, UW-L Political Science Department and the Joint Legislative & Regents Relations Committee are sponsoring the presentation. It will contribute to a LWV study on the impact of privatizing government services on communities. If interested in being involved with the study, email cgjenks@earthlink.net or gwolf@uwlax.edu or call 608.782.5727.
