Justin Quinn, an assistant professor of printmaking at Saint Cloud (Minn.) State University, will share his prints, books and installation works. “Tales of Space and Time: Justin Quinn” opens with a reception from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, in the University Art Galley in the Center for the Arts. The reception is free and open to the public. The show runs through Saturday, Feb. 22. Since 1998, Quinn has been exploring ideas of visual and perceptual space through the use of letterforms, in particular the letter "E." Using Herman Melville's 1851 novel “Moby Dick” as source material for large and small scale prints, collages and drawings, "E" becomes a surrogate for all letters in the alphabet for Quinn. Quinn's works on paper have been included in more than 80 exhibitions, both national and international. He recently had a solo exhibition at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. His teaching, exhibitions, and role as a moderator and panelist at national conferences currently make him a popular figures in printmaking. Quinn was born in Duluth, Minn. He received a bachelor’s in fine arts from UW-Superior in 1995. He studied printmaking at the School of Art and Art History at the University of Iowa and received a master’s of fine arts in printmaking in 2000, and master’s in art history in 2001. Regular gallery hours are noon-8 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, noon-5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and during events in Toland Theatre or by appointment. Admission is free.
