Effort is a dead ringer for giving back to the community

UWL faculty staff and students will help ring in the new season for the Salvation Army. And you can help. The UWL crew will invade all 23 bell-ringing locations from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11. With two-hour shifts and at least two people at each, around 274 ringers are needed. “It’s a great way for students to get involved,” says Kasie Von Haden, civic engagement and involvement coordinator in University Centers. “We encourage faculty and staff to join in the ringing too. We want to paint the town maroon.” Anyone interested in ringing bells should visit www.uwlax.edu/ugetconected and look for the “UWL Bell Ringing” tab. Students and staff with a UWL network ID can easily log in by using their username and password. All Nov. 11 ringers are encouraged to wear UWL gear. Offices and groups interested in “adopting” a site for the entire day — with around 12 ringers total throughout the day — should contact Von Haden at ugetconnected@uwlax.edu. Groups are encouraged to sing or play instruments during shifts. An “All-UWL” ringing day at all La Crosse area Salvation Army sites has been popular nearly every year since the late 1980s. It’s simple to help Go to www.uwlax.edu/ugetconected and look for the “UWL Bell Ringing” tab. Enter your UWL network ID username and password to easily log in and sign up to volunteer. Ringers are encouraged to wear UWL gear!
