Rev. Allan Townsend’s Wonderful World Jazz Band was formed in 1978 and has become a Wisconsin favorite. Specializing in Mississippi River traditional jazz, the band has appeared in river cities jazz events from New Orleans to the Twin Cities, including 26 years with the La Crosse Great River Jazz Fest, and more than 20 years at Riverfest and Oktoberfest.
The Riverside Jazz Party is part of the Gertrude Salzer-Gordon Jazz in the Park 2014 Concert Series. This year’s series concludes Friday, July 25 at 5 p.m. on the 300 block of Pearl St. with a Downtown Street Dance with the La Crosse Jazz Orchestra singers and dance professionals.
The La Crosse Jazz Orchestra, directed by UW-L Music Professor Greg Balfany, is western Wisconsin's only jazz repertory orchestra. The ensemble formed in 1972 to perform "Jazz On A Sunday Afternoon" for the Great River Festival of the Arts Summer Concert Series. The band has continued that tradition and during the last decade has assumed a much larger role. For more info visit www.lacrossejazzorchestra.comIf you go—
