UWL students present research during four April events

UW-La Crosse student Rachel Ramthun was one of 18 UWL students to travel to North Carolina Wednesday, April 6 to share her research with people around the country at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), April 7-9.
“I feel really accomplished after presenting here, but I also feel as if I have a ton more work to continue doing,” she said after giving her oral presentation in a classroom at the University of North Carolina-Asheville.
April is a busy time for undergraduate research. Students will be sharing their research projects and results across the state and country. Throughout the month nearly 200 students are presenting at NCUR, Posters in the Rotunda, as well as UW System and UWL research events. “Presenting research is the culmination of years of work by many of our students,” says Scott Cooper, UWL director of Undergraduate Research and Creativity. “This gives them valuable professional experience and illustrates the high level of scholarship practiced at UWL.” Ramthun has enjoyed receiving both positive affirmation and suggestions on her research related to tax increment financing (TIF). “At this point it's nice to hear ‘yes, this is well done and worth the time and effort,’ even if you next hear, ‘I would continue this project by doing x, y, and z,’” she says. “The suggestions also imply that you're doing well and should keep doing what you're doing.”
