Andrea Anderson is a printmaker and metalsmith. She believes that the artist should be an agent of change. Her work is an attempt to familiarize the unknown, and to shine a light on perspectives that are silenced or even ignored. She is often inspired by lesser known myths and folktales, which often reveal much about the cultures that produced them.

Semi-annual Senior Exhibition runs April 22-May 6

[caption id="attachment_45693" align="alignright" width="294"]Ellie East’s interest in the emotions conveyed by the human body has greatly influenced her art and has recently branched from 2D and 3D to performance. Although primarily a multimedia artist, she has most recently been exploring photography. Although primarily a multimedia artist, she has most recently been exploring photography.[/caption] “Red Wire,” the title of this spring’s semi­annual senior exhibition, includes a wide variety of media: printmaking, painting, sculpture, photography, blacksmithing and metalsmithing. Students participating include: Andrea Anderson, Elizabeth Brown, Ellie East, Matthew Lusk and Madline Thorn. The exhibition opens with a reception from 4-­6 p.m. Friday, April 22, in the University Art Gallery, Center for the Arts. The show runs through May 6. Regular gallery hours are noon-8 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, noon-5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and during events in Toland Theatre. After taking a welding course at Western Technical College, he decided to enroll at UW¬L to study metalsmithing and blacksmithing. He has come to love the intricate work involved in the process of shaping metal and enjoys making pieces that are functional, yet artfully appealing. Her work is compelled by the idea of the “beautiful¬ugly” and the juxtaposition inherent to the human experience. She believes art is a language and a viewer’s interpretation is as crucial as the artist's intent. In the classroom, Brown teaches critical thinking, innovation, problem solving and, on occasion, art. Elizabeth Brown is a mixed media artist, poet and teacher. Her work is compelled by the idea of the “beautiful¬ugly” and the juxtaposition inherent to the human experience. She believes art is a language and a viewer’s interpretation is as crucial as the artist's intent. In the classroom, Brown teaches critical thinking, innovation, problem solving and, on occasion, art.[/caption]
