Kate Gorman, a senior at UW-La Crosse, is the new 2011 Miss La Crosse/Oktoberfest. She was crowned by her predecessor, Elizabeth Kramer, who is also a UW-L student.
Three UW-L students and a UW-L alumna were in the running for the title of Miss La Crosse/Oktoberfest Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center Main Theater. Nine contestants competed in the scholarship pageant, which awards more than $14,000 in cash and in-kind scholarships for contestants pursuing higher education.
The women competed in five phases of competition including interview, talent, swimsuit, evening gown and onstage interview. The new Miss La Crosse/Oktoberfest will become a member of the Oktoberfest Royal Family and serve as an ambassador and volunteer with Oktoberfest to promote local pride and tourism. She will also volunteer throughout the community promoting the community service project she has chosen. She will also have the opportunity to compete in the Miss Wisconsin Pageant in June. The woman chosen to serve as Miss Wisconsin will go on to compete at Miss America.
