Suicide Prevention Summit planned in September

A Suicide Prevention Summit is set for 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, Riverside Park, to raise awareness about suicide.

The La Crosse Area Suicide Prevention Initiative hopes to raise awareness and hope in the community about suicide during a summit in September. The summit opens with an Awareness Event from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, Riverside Park. Conference sessions will be held from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, the La Crosse Center. The summit is directed toward psychologists; social workers and counselors; teachers; school guidance counselors; clergy and pastoral care; law enforcement officials; nurses; paramedics; medical assistants; youth leaders; student service personnel; and those affected by suicide. Featured speaker includes Timothy Lineberry, the medical director of Mayo Clinic Psychiatric Hospital and an associate professor of psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Registration is $75 and includes conference sessions, refreshments, lunch and materials. The La Crosse Area Suicide Prevention Initiative brings service providers, consumers, and community members together to raise awareness about suicide as a preventable community and public health problem.
