Summer jazz series continues with downtown street dance

The Gertrude Salzer-Gordon Jazz in the Park 2013 Concert Series continues with a street dance in downtown La Crosse this Friday

[caption id="attachment_24672" align="alignright" width="128"]Vought-Cori-2013 UW-L student vocalist Cori Vought will perform at this year’s Downtown Street Dance Friday, July 12, as part of Krazy Daze.[/caption] The Gertrude Salzer-Gordon Jazz in the Park 2013 Concert Series continues with a street dance in downtown La Crosse this Friday. The series moves from Riverside Park to the 100 block of King Street in front of the Pump House from 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 12. The performance is part of Krazy Daze. The La Crosse Jazz Orchestra will perform hits of the Swing Era, including music of Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Xavier Cugat and the Andrews sisters. The band will add ballroom selections and rock and pop tunes of the ’80s. Guest artists include an Andrew’s Sisters trio comprised of members of La Crescent’s  “Apple Annies” and UW-La Crosse student vocalist Cori Vought singing selections including “L-O-V-E,” “Sentimental Journey” and June Christy’s “Shoe Fly Pie.” Dance instruction will be offered by the Moonlight Dance Studio beginning at 6 p.m. The concert is free and open to all. The rain site is Cavalier Theater, 5th and State streets. The final concert of the series begins at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 21, in Riverside Park. The Riverside Jazz Party with the La Crosse Jazz Orchestra, guest groups and internationally acclaimed trumpeter and Broadway actor and singer Byron Stripling. The rain site is The Weber Center or the Performing Arts. The La Crosse Jazz Orchestra, directed by UW-L Music Professor Greg Balfany, is Western Wisconsin's only jazz repertory orchestra and was formed in 1972 to perform "Jazz On A Sunday Afternoon" for the Great River Festival of the Arts Summer Concert Series.
