UW-L reached a record enrollment again this fall with more than 10,200 undergraduate and graduate students. UW-L has a total of 10,227 students this fall compared to 10,074 in fall 2011, which was also a record year. Over the last seven years, enrollment has increased by 16 percent from 8,814 students in fall 2005. Recruitment to UW-L is aided by the fact that UW-L is one of top schools in the UW system. UW-L students have an average high school academic performance that is second only to the incoming first-year students at UW-Madison. UW-L is also known for an array of programs, which offer students a variety of options for majors and minors. Also UW-L is well-known for programs in the health sciences that will help meet Wisconsin’s workforce needs. While many schools across the country were slashing programs during the economic recession, UW-L implemented the Growth, Quality, and Access program in fall 2008. The program increased tuition and allowed UW-L to continue hiring faculty and staff to provide more classes and support for students from enrollment to graduation. Ultimately, UW-L has continued to retain and graduate more students. UW-L's six-year graduation rate has increased from 60 percent in 2002-03 to 69 percent in 2010-11, says Natalie Solverson, UW-L director of institutional research. Source: UW-L Institutional Research
