“India, My Didi” runs through April 1-30

A University of Wisconsin-La Crosse exhibit will feature images, objects and video that document study abroad experiences of 13 students who recently traveled through India. “India, My Didi” will be displayed in Murphy’s Mug, the cafe inside Murphy Library, from April 1–30. A reception takes place from 3–4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the cafe. The exhibition features collections from the trip led by communications studies instructor Ayesha Patnaik. The students include: Austin Baar, Jill Blanchard, Cody Fortney, Claire Gocke, Noelle Griffiths, Korina Harman, Rachel Helgeson, Chong Her, Amy McCubbins, Alina Piotrowski, Mackenzie Ray, Megan Roundy and Lydia Russell. “India, My Didi” pairs objects and images with the experiences, lessons, memories and, most importantly, stories gained by the students. The exhibit aims to allow the campus community to share in the study abroad experiences and perspectives of the participating students. The exhibition is a snapshot encapsulating student experiences of India's encompassing beauty, humanity, hospitality and extreme disparity. The students chose to personify India with the reverential “didi,” or “respected older sister,” as a tribute to their experiences there. The exhibit was made possible through the collaboration and sponsorship of the students and faculty involved, the Office of International Education and Murphy Library.
