The 21st annual UW-L Festival of Carols begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in Toland Theatre, Center for the Arts.
Concert is in special setting this year
Music at this year’s Festival of Carols at UW-La Crosse will be performed in a special, festive setting. The five performing ensembles will be on the set of the Theatre Arts Department’s production of “A Christmas Carol.” The 21st annual UW-L Festival of Carols begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in Toland Theatre, Center for the Arts. The Festival of Carols will feature the UW-L Orchestra, led by J. Thomas Seddon; the Women’s Chorus, conducted by Aliyah Richling; the Chamber Choir with music director Terence Kelly; and the Männerchor and Concert Choir, conducted by Gary Walth, director of Choral Studies. Traditional carols and those in new arrangements will be performed, as well as featured works including the Chamber Choir’s "Sweet was the Song" by Jens Klimek, and Daniel Pinkham’s “Christmas Cantata” with the Concert Choir and double brass choir. Männerchor will premiere Walth’s new setting of “Of The Father’s Love Begotten.” The orchestra will perform several movements from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Ballet.” The concert will conclude with two choruses from Handel’s “Messiah” and Leroy Anderson’s “Christmas Festival.” General admission is $10. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, Dec. 4. Tickets may be purchased in advance in Room 145 of the Center for the Arts, or by calling 608.785.8415 between 1 and 4 p.m. weekdays. Tickets will also be sold at the door beginning at 12:45 p.m.; doors open at 1:15 pm.
