UW-L students and staff expect to be singing the praises of a newly renovated campus recital hall in a couple of years.
The UW System Capital Planning and Budget Office has given preliminary approval for a $900,000 renovation of Annett Recital Hall in the Center for the Arts. It would be the first major remodeling of the university’s 285-seat recital hall since the structure was built in 1973.
The project will provide complete renovation of the 40-year-old recital hall, including replacing lighting and electrical infrastructure; upgrading of the room’s mechanical HVAC system; replacing all wall and ceiling finishes, along with floor finishes and fixed seating; and installing new educational technology.
The renovation project is expected to be formally approved by the Board of Regents in June as part of the 2013-15 instructional space capital budget proposals. UW System Capital Planning has a $15 million budget for the biennium for instructional space projects. The fund received 49 project requests totaling $28 million for the 2013-15 fiscal year and funded 32 projects at institutions across the system.
It’s expected that planning and design for the Annett Recital Hall renovation will take place during the 2014-15 fiscal year with renovation taking place in 2015-16.
The project will be somewhat similar to the $1.3 million renovation of Graff Main Hall Auditorium which began in December 2013 and is expected to be completed by fall 2014.
