Professor provides pointers for aging men

A well-known UW-L researcher is prominently featured in the Oct. 20 issue of Time magazine. Exercise and Sport Science Professor John Porcari’s recent research on how men can age-proof their muscles was highlighted in a one-page article. Muscle mass dwindles as people age, but Porcari says it can come back. The story includes sketches and pointers with six simple moves for:
  • Shoulders
  • Arms
  • Chest
  • Core and Abs
  • Lower Body
  • Back
The article was based from a number of American Council on Education exercise studies Porcari completed over the past several years with colleague Professor Carl Foster and their students. Porcari, who has conducted research since coming to UW-L in 1989, is part of a team of nationally known and respected experts on exercise, fitness and performance. In 2010, he received the Award of Excellence from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, making him one of the world’s leading experts in heart and lung rehabilitation. More information about the article can be found at age-proof your muscles.
