UW-L is expanding its Statistical Consulting Center to include clients outside the university. Anyone needing professional help analyzing information such as clinical studies, customer satisfaction surveys, trends or other information, can contact the center to get help. “We provide services ranging from simple advice and peace of mind to a complete statistical design, analysis and write-up of results," says on-campus client director David Reineke. The Mathematics Department was awarded a $126,000 UW System Incentive Grant in November 2013 to set up infrastructure to operate a Statistical Consulting Center for the broader La Crosse community. Previously the SCC was only available to UW-L faculty, student researchers and other campus clients. The two divisions will now operate separately with different directors. SCC Advisory Board Member Sherwin Toribio will serve as the off-campus client director. Faculty members in the Mathematics Department head the center, but statistics majors and students with actuarial science concentrations provide some of the consulting. “The proposed SCC expansion will foster the development of an educated and skilled workforce through supporting the growth of the statistics program at UW-L,” says Reineke. The center is housed within the Mathematics Department in 1021 Cowley Hall. Contact the center at 608.785.6603 or learn more on the Mathematics Department website. The price for off-campus clients depends on the length of the project and whether the client is from an academic institution, non-profit organization or a for-profit business. New clients from off-campus will receive a 60 percent discount on the first project through December 2014. An initial meeting consultation is free. All on-campus clients receive services for free. On-campus clients can find more information at www2.uwlax.edu/Mathematics/On-campus-clients/.
