UW-L students are helping area youth with their motor skills and more in Buddy Baseball this summer.

Undergraduate and graduate students in UW-L's Adapted Physical Education Teacher Education Program are helping area youth improve their motor skills and more in the Buddy Baseball program this summer. Approximately 40 youth with disabilities are playing baseball in the UW-L Physical Activity Mentoring Program offered in partnership with the La Crosse YMCA.
Students coordinate the eight-week summer program which includes games played at La Crosse baseball fields, as well as at the Miracle Baseball League Stadium in Onalaska. Along with helping youth with disabilities physically, it's a fun way to teach the fundamentals of baseball in a team environment, says Garth Tymeson, Exercise and Sport Science. "It's also a great learning laboratory for future teachers," he adds.
