Ensemble invited to perform at state conference

The UW-L Wind Ensemble will perform concerts in eastern and central Wisconsin on its way to a performance at a statewide conference. The ensemble will perform concerts in Germantown and McFarland before heading to the National Band Association-Wisconsin Chapter Conference in Wisconsin Rapids. Performances are set for: • 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Germantown High School, W180N11501 River Lane. • 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at McFarland High School, 5101 Farwell St. • 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Hotel Mead and Convention Center, 451 E. Grand Ave., Wisconsin Rapids All concerts are free and open to the public. The concert repertoire will include among these selections: "Second Suite in F," “First Suite in Eb,” “Irish Tune,” “Tears” and “The ‘Gum-Suckers’ March.” Guest trombone soloist Scott Bean will be featured in “Trombone Concertino.” The UW-L Wind Ensemble, under the direction of J. Thomas Seddon IV, Music, draws the most talented instrumentalists at the university. It performs the finest traditional and contemporary wind band literature. The ensemble provides students with the highest possible experience through the performance of great pieces of art. Literature is chosen with the student’s artistic development in mind. The group is open to any UW-L student by audition and accepts around 50 students. The Wind Ensemble gives two performances in La Crosse each semester and tours throughout the Midwest annually.
