Holiday music from around the world will be featured during the 22nd annual UW-L Festival of Carols.
The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at English Lutheran Church, 1509 King St., La Crosse. Suggested ticket donations are $6 for students, $8 for senior citizens and $10 for others. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling the Music Department at 785-8415.
Four ensembles will perform. They include the UW-L Women’s Chorus and Männerchor, Aliyah Richling, conductor; the UW-L Concert Choir, Gary Kent Walth, conductor; and UW-L’s Symphony Orchestra, J. Thomas Seddon, conductor.
The concert will feature individual musical selections by the four ensembles. Choral compositions and arrangements from France, Germany and Nigeria will be highlighted, including “Nowell, Nowell, This is the Salutation of Angel Gabriel,” a Middle English carol arranged by Minnesota composer Gary Ruschman. Walth’s arrangement of the traditional carol from Trinidad “The Virgin Mary Had A Baby Boy” will also be performed.
The concert will also include massed performances of the “Gloria” from Franz Joseph Haydn’s Third Mass (The Lord Nelson Mass), and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Fantasia on Christmas Carols” and “O Clap Your Hands.”
The perennial audience favorite “A Christmas Festival,” arranged by LeRoy Anderson, will serve as the finale for the concert.
