UWL volunteer event serves community while connecting campus
A volunteer initiative, UWL Day of Service, is making a return to UW-La Crosse — allowing students to serve the community while connecting with others.
In April, UWL’s Leadership and Involvement Center (LIC) hosted the first UWL Day of Service with 64 volunteers across five different community projects. The initiative builds upon an existing volunteer event, Make A Difference Day, during which UWL partners with Western Technical College and Viterbo University to serve La Crosse and greater community.
“The LIC is excited to host the UWL Day of Service,” says Amanda Krafft, program coordinator for civic engagement and leadership at UWL. “This initiative expands upon Make a Difference Day to bring UWL students, faculty and staff together in community service.”
The UWL Day of Service is hosted twice each semester, which includes the tri-campus Make A Difference Day in the fall. This spring, UWL will host two dates: March 1 and 29.
On Saturday, March 1, the event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with volunteers starting the day at the Student Union E-Cafe. Groups will then head out to their volunteer sites and work on their service projects until 1 p.m. The day wraps up with a pasta lunch and conversation on campus. Volunteers must sign up for a service site by Feb. 27 on UGetConnected.
