Gita Pai, History, to attend National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute

Associate Professor Gita Pai anticipates a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute at Yale University will provide an opportunity to strengthen her mastery of the subjects she teaches in the history, religion, and art history of India. Pai was selected from a national pool of applicants to participate in the three-week, intensive program, “The Bhagavad Gita: Ancient Poem, Modern Readers" in July. During the program, Pai will intensely study a seminal Hindu religious text, The Bhagavad Gita, historically. The group of 16 scholars in her seminar will cover the text’s composition in the early centuries BC to how it continues to live and speak to readers in the modern world. The residential program emphasizes sustained interaction among the participants and the director through discussion of common readings, conversations about teaching, and advising on independent projects. As an NEH Summer Scholar, Pai will receive a stipend to cover travel, study and living expenses.
