La Crosse makes list of "Top 10 Small Cities Where Business is Thriving," according to online study

A joint analysis of economic data by websites Nerdwallet and Entrepreneur put La Crosse as the 10th best small city in the nation to start a small business. On La Crosse, the researchers write:

"La Crosse was built around manufacturing, but this segment of the local economy, following a national trend, has fallen sharply in recent decades. La Crosse, however, has more than replaced the jobs lost, especially in highly skilled, knowledge-intensive industries, such as health care. The La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce has helped bring La Crosse’s economy into the 21st century. Here, 43.91% of businesses have paid employees, the highest mark of all cities analyzed."

Anne Hlavacka, Director of the UWL Small Business Development Center, says the university helps with one of our region's biggest strengths: calling people to come back or stay in the area. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIt8yrZEmyE
