Two UWL faculty teamed up to provide an opportunity for current and future world language teachers — at UWL and in surrounding areas — to share best practices Thursday, April 14.
Kim Morris and Claire Mitchell, both assistant professors of Spanish, worked with Brian Wopat, French teacher at Onalaska High School, to organize a Curriculum Writing Day April 14 at UWL. They invited three experts in the field of world language education to speak.
The goal of the event was to share current best practices in language teaching. Several schools in the surrounding area and language programs at UWL are revising their language teaching curricula, thus creating a need for a workshop centered on best practices in curriculum revision, explains Mitchell.
Both language teachers or language teacher candidates from UWL and surrounding areas attended.
"A big takeaway for me, personally, was getting hands-on experience to plan out a thematic unit with the consultants," says Mitchell. "It was extremely helpful to be able to work through the steps of creating and designing a thematic unit plan with experts providing feedback as we did it."
