  • Listen without judgment
  • Believe them
  • Help them get connected to resources
  • Respect their choices and privacy

Your Voice Matters

Join the movement. Get trained, volunteer, or become a peer educator. Every action matters in the fight to end sexual violence.

SANE Exam Information

A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Exam is a comprehensive medical examination provided by a specially trained nurse following a sexual assault. This exam is designed to care for the physical and emotional needs of the survivor while also collecting forensic evidence that can be used in a criminal investigation, should the survivor choose to report the assault.

What to Expect:

  • A private, trauma-informed medical examination by a certified SANE nurse.
  • Collection of physical evidence (only with consent).
  • Treatment for potential injuries and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
  • Emergency contraception, if needed.
  • Crisis counseling and referrals for follow-up support.

How to Access a SANE Exam: SANE exams are available at designated hospitals and medical centers. To locate the nearest facility or get help accessing care, contact:
