About RAVE Alerts
All students, faculty, and staff are automatically enrolled in RAVE Alerts. Contact information is pulled directly from your WINGS account, so please ensure your cell phone number, work email, and personal email are current and accurate.
Types of RAVE Alert Notifications
The RAVE system uses three types of notifications to inform the campus community in the event of an emergency or public safety concern. It’s important to understand each type and when it may be used.
- Emergency Notifications
Issued when there is an immediate or ongoing threat to campus safety—such as an active shooter, earthquake, or evacuation. Due to their urgency, these alerts are sent via text message, voice call, and email. - Timely Warnings
These alerts are sent in compliance with the Clery Act to notify the campus when a serious crime (e.g., homicide, sexual assault, robbery) has occurred within the campus jurisdiction and may pose a continued risk. These are sent via email only. - Public Safety Advisories
Issued for non-immediate threats that still warrant community awareness—such as scams or fraud attempts. These are also sent via email.
RAVE Alert System Testing
UW-La Crosse conducts regular tests of the RAVE Alert system to ensure proper functionality and Clery Act compliance. During these tests, messages are sent to all students, faculty, and staff, as well as any community members subscribed to alerts. Notifications are delivered via text message, email, and social media.
